Lazy Days of Summer – not

Between three shows (including my first in the LA area), open mics, and classes, this was a busy comedy July for me.  Oh yeah, I also made a trip to Salt Lake City, spent three days volunteering with San Diego LGBT Pride, and competed in a powerlifting meet.  What happened to the “lazy days of summer”?

The good news on the comedy front is that all the shows went fairly well – I will post some new video next month.

The almost-as-good news is that some of the open mics went pretty poorly.  Yes, it can be pretty scary up there when no one is laughing at something, but I’d rather that happen at an open mic than at a show where people are expecting a real show.  I definitely have material that I need to re-work before I use it in a show on my “Upcoming” page.

Spreading wings

I’m always writing, but sometimes it’s not really clear whether something is ready for a show, so I tend to play it safe and use material that I know ‘works’.  It’s becoming clear that I need to take a few more risks.  Still, I don’t want to do that for a show that people have paid to see.  Bottom line – you’ll probably see me at more open mic’s in the next few months.  And if you do, and if the new material sucks, let me know.
