Write Time

This month seems less about being on stage and more about writing for the stage.

I’ve been reviewing, editing, and rewriting the script for a short play I’m working on.  It may never see the footlights of a stage, but I have a long term goal of having a full length show, so I figure the best way to get started is to get started.  My deadline is the Scripteasers short play competition.

The SoCal Drummer weekend is this weekend and I’m hosting the contest on Saturday.   No, it has nothing to do with drums.  It’s a celebration of gay masculinity, so I’m revisiting a lot of my gay material.

To push myself as a writer, last weekend I participated in the Point Loma Actors “24 Experiment” – at 7PM on Friday teams of writers started writing (and had to use some elements that were revealed when we arrived) and by 7PM on Saturday, the short plays we wrote were on stage.   It’s a challenge for writers, directors, and actors.  I can’t say the script my co-writers and I came up with will win any literary awards, but it definitely sharpened my skills to have to bring a story to life in that amount of time.

I guess spring time is write time this year.
